The recoil from a .460 Weatherby is easily tolerable when standing or sitting. When shot from a bench without anything to help mitigate the recoil, it is too much. I have shot it extensively from standing and sitting, and found it to be easily tolerated. However, I did find the .416 Weatherby to be far more comfortable. I handload everything, so I tend to load them to the maximum. The .416 Weatherby does everything necessary. I have shot several very large bears, moose and elk, and they go down promptly, but my shots are always well placed, despite me being in my 80’s.

Avid collector of left handed Weatherby Rifles. Purchased a 460 several years ago to round out collection. Have been impressed by accuracy with three shot groups averaging an inch at 100 yd’s. This is pretty good since the bullet is nearly half an inch in diameter. A Led Sled with two 25 pound bags of lead shot makes recoil tolerable. Making arrangements now to use rifle for the first time on something other than at the range, a African cape buffalo hunt in the summer of 2020. Seriously hopping rifle performance and my ability will be up to the task!
